Forms are sometimes called “Ideas” -Plato’s words are eidos and idea, and the latter suggests the English “idea.” Webb(Phaedo 115b) But most of the dialogue is filled with Plato's own effort to establish with perfect certainty what Socrates had only been willing to speculate about in the Apology, that the human soul is truly immortal. As Plato saw it, hope of survival comes naturally to the philosopher, whose whole life is one of preparation for death.
