Shunt feeding a tower
WebJan 5, 2024 · I remember in years past they would not allow shunt feeding above 1000 watts. I have an AM tower that can support a new fm translator antenna but the problem is jumping the base insulator with the fm coax. I know about using a transformer across the base, feeding at a neutral point and using a skirt but it would seem a shunt feed would be … WebJun 9, 2024 · Exercising the KISS principle, I’ll install a flat top plate with a 3 ft pipe stubbed up. Then, I can slide the larger diameter mast over it, and rotate it by a pull rope attached to one end of the boom. The antenna will be a KT-34. Many thanks to Jim W5LA, Mark K5MSB and Shawn WA5VQP for the helping hands on the labor to make this all possible.

It contains a wealth of information, several shunt feed matching methods, and verifies that a vertical needs to be at least an electrical quarter wave in length at the lowest frequency being used.
WebFeb 21, 2024 · Very nice. I just use the MFJ anylazer and tune for 50 ohm J+0 reactance ,or close as I can get. I like to keep the VSWR under 1.7:1 at the dip. Or return loss under 18. You will need a shunt coil at the feed for the lower frequencies. That antenna will be 12 ohms on 75 meters or something very low. Here is my experimental 160 meter loading coil. WebThe coil is 20 turns, #12 solid, 1 & 1/4 inch I.D. ( closet hanger dowel works great ) spread to 5" long, ( thats 4 turns per inch ). One end to feed point, other to ground. Clip lead from ground taps up the coil to adjust the inductance used. Eight turns works perfect for 40m, and 4 turns for 20m. Mind you, this is on a wagon - results will ...
WebJan 14, 2012 · Shunt feeding a tower is not an easy thing to do. You really need consider every part of the existing antenna system, including the tower/ mast. A good design for a shunt feed tower needs at least 120 radials laid out, each 250 foot long, and this would work on 1.8 and 3.5MHz. WebThe Folded Unipole. Author: Edmund A. Laport. An alternative method of shunt feeding a vertical radiator one-quarter wavelength tall is that shown in Fig. 2.13, which may be called a folded unipole, from very-high-frequency terminology. By this method, which is one-half of a folded dipole, the total antenna current is divided between two ...
